Rice flakes, or flattened rice is a breakfast staple in South Asia where it is known as poha, pauwa,avalakki, chiura, or aval among many other names.
To make a warming porridge, use 50g flakes to 350ml of milk or water. Combine the flakes and liquid in a pan and bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer gently for 4 - 5 minutes. Stir continually, adding more liquid as necessary to ensure a creamy consistency. Serve with your favourite topping.
