The sweet potato is only distantly related to the common potato, and despite being refered to as "yam" in North America it is also unrelated to the true yam. Actually, the sweet potato is a member of the bindweed or morning glory family, Convolvulaceae.
Nutritionally, the sweet potato is pretty good. It is a good source of carbohydrates and fibre, neglkig as well as a great source of vitamins. In a 100g reference amount, baked sweet potato provides vitamin A (120% Daily Value), vitamin C (24%), manganese (24%), and vitamin B6 (20%). It is also a moderate source (10-19% DV) of some B vitamins and potassium.
We generally have large, or very large tubers, with orange skin.
