The evergreen nutmeg tree originated in Indonesia and is grown in most tropical areas. Nutmeg is the seed of the plant and Mace is its dried outer covering.
Used in both sweet and savoury dishes all around the world from spicy soups, haggis, gravy, garam masala mixes, as well as with vegetables such as potatoes, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and string beans. Nutmeg is a traditional ingredient in mulled cider and mulled wine as well as some recipes for rum punch.
It's fun and challenging to cook with what's available and the produce is so much fresher than anywhere else. Our family loves them!
