Nigella (aka Black Cumin, Fennel Flower and Black Onion Seed) is unrelated to both onion and cumin! Native to southern Europe and western Asia, has long been cultivated as a spice. The ripe seeds have a camphor-like scent and a bitter, later aromatic taste.
It's fun and challenging to cook with what's available and the produce is so much fresher than anywhere else. Our family loves them!
