The fruit that we know as a Satsuma is actualy a close relative of the mandarin. However, unlike the tighter-skinned mandarines, these incredible sweet little oranges are well known for their easy peeling.
Probaby named after the Satsuma province in Japan from where they were first imported into Europe in the 19th Century.
